Meet Your Relationship Anxiety Therapist

I’m Cristina Delgado, a Doctor of Counselling Psychology and relational anxiety therapist.

Welcome to Psychologically Minded. I’m so glad you’re here.

As the daughter of multicultural immigrants, I learned early that a life of hustle would not necessarily create happiness. Growing up, my parents worked hard for success. But they were constantly worried about the future. They struggled to relax and enjoy the present.

My parents were stuck in an unfulfilling cycle of disconnection from themselves and the people around them. I wanted to break that cycle – for myself and for others.

From a very early age, I knew I wanted to become a therapist. I recognised that everyone has their own difficult journeys, and I felt deep compassion for the people I would meet. I’ve always been curious about people’s experiences and stories, and have been able to see the strength and resilience in others.

But I didn’t always know how to see my own strength and resilience. I was caught in a loop; feeling anxious thinking about my connections with others, my body feeling in overdrive, and acting in ways that I would later find embarrassing. My insecurities about myself were reflected in the way I tried to connect with others. I realised that breaking my family’s generational cycle of disconnection was easier said than done.

I’ve always been anxious about how I come across to others. I’ve found myself in relationships that didn’t allow me to be my true, whole self. I’ve felt like a burden to others. And when I became a mom, my understanding of my own role in the world was flipped upside down.

Through my psychology education – and receiving therapy myself – I learned to look beyond the rat race and appreciate the small joys in life.

I became present in the process, not just focused on the end result.

And my life began to feel fulfilling every day, not just when I was able to take a holiday and escape from my routines.

And that’s the reason I started my practice – to help people feel more fulfilled and connected in their everyday lives.

Through my work as a relationship anxiety therapist, I’ve come to understand that our well-being in life depends on how we view, process, and make sense of our stories.

Your story includes your daily behaviours, habits, emotions, and thoughts. But it’s also your history, your deep-rooted beliefs and traditions, and your unconscious patterns.

That’s why I want to help you create better ways of thinking, improve your relationships, and improve the way you cope with your worries on a daily basis.

Through our work together, you’ll feel more present in your own company and the company of others. You’ll adapt to situations and circumstances more easily. You’ll develop more reflection, satisfaction, compassion, and thoughtfulness. And you’ll feel more fulfilled in your daily life.

Why Choose Me as Your Anxiety Therapist?

If you’re feeling inadequate, anxious, lonely, and dissatisfied, I want you to know that I see you.

And I’m here to help you break that cycle.

As your relational anxiety therapist, I work with you to change how you relate to yourself and others.

I believe that therapy can help you become who you want to be. And I’m honoured to walk alongside you on your journey. While I can’t promise this work will be easy, I can promise to be there to guide and support you every step of the way.

When we work together, I’ll:

  • Hold space for you, no matter what you’re going through

  • Work to make therapy as comfortable as possible

  • Help you feel at ease

  • See your strengths, even if you can’t yet

  • Simplify things that feel complicated or confusing

  • Acknowledge your unique experiences and situations with compassion and zero judgment

  • Use humor and lightness whenever appropriate

  • Collaborate with you to find your best treatment options

I’m here to help you find ease and contentment in your life. No matter what you’re experiencing – even if you’re stuck in unhelpful or distressing patterns – I’ll help you remember your strengths and values. I’ll remind you you’re never a failure. And I promise to always be in your corner, holding compassion and respect for you, no matter what happens.

Regardless of who you are, my goal is for you to leave our sessions feeling more psychologically minded.

This idea, which I’ve adapted from the work of Michael Karson, means you develop a capacity to examine yourself with accuracy, intelligence, curiosity, empathy, and humour that fosters healthy attachment and growth.

Let’s help you find the confidence, connection, and joy you crave so you can live the life you truly want.
